Interview with the artist Jorge Rivas conducted by David Aguilar for the Peru Art guide, September / 2018 and regarding his individual exhibition at the Juan Parra del Riego Cultural Center, Lima Peru.
David Aguilar: What do you mean when you say "gold measures" ?
Jorge Rivas: It is a complicated question ,but at the same time logical and reasoned .The golden ratio. or golden number, is a number Irrational that keeps perfect proportions in the geometric construction and that was discovered in Ancient Greece, being related to nature and with human creation. It is a measure that mysteriously exists in great architectural works of antiquity and in renaissance painting. I use them when I paint to show myself that underneath and above me is a higher being, speaking to us through nature. There is a great secret and great mystery not yet revealed.

David Aguilar: A que se refiere cuando dice ” las medidas de oro ?
Jorge Rivas : Es una pregunta complicada , pero a la vez lógica y razonada. La proporción áurea o numero de oro ,es un numero Irracional que guarda proporciones perfectas en la construcción geométrica y que fue descubierto en la Grecia Antigua ,guardando relación con la naturaleza y con la creación humana .Es una medida que misteriosamente existe en las grandes obras arquitectónicas de la antigüedad y en la pintura del renacimiento .Yo las utilizo cuando pinto para demostrame a mi mismo que por debajo y por encima de mí está un ser superior , que nos habla a través de la naturaleza . Allí hay un gran secreto y gran misterio aún no revelado.

DESDE El OJO DE UN AGUILA. A veces conviene alejarse para apreciar mejor aquello que nos perturba,deleita o conmueve. Tomar Distancia para captar lo esencial, puede ser un método para entender ese mundo que nos rodea y sujeta, por estar inmersos dentro de sus límites.
¿
Cuantas veces el velo misterioso que envuelve megaciudades, sitios arqueológicos y paisajes naturales ha sido revelado por fotografiás aéreas ? Algo de eso hace Jorge Rivas cuando se eleva para contemplar los centros urbanos.Su incursión aéreo le brinda una vision abstracta que va dibujando realidades mientras desciende. En un punto intermedio de ese vuelo,en ese limite entre el enigma y la verdad se ejecuta cada pintura que Rivas a denominado Vista Aéreas El resultado es la serie que contemplamos con desconcierto inicial.Turbación que se manifiesta también al enfrentarnos con su bizarra cartografia de módulos topográficos acostumbrados a mapas elaborados con reglas Estrictas, ahora el mundo y los paisajes "EL Perú POR EJEMPLO" se traducen en radicales formas geométricas y símbolos universales,trabajados con laboriosas manchas de color.Cuadrados,rectángulos,cruces,círculos, estrellas,etc., conforman un repertorio que sintetiza la orografia en planos diferenciados y explosivos haces que parten de la fuerza centrifuga de un lucero. Rivas emplea los colores con generosidad,acción que sirve de exorcismo contra el tenebroso mundo que nos rodea y oprime.Color y geometría como armas para reinterpretar nuestra gran casa.Por algo,el autor viene de la misma tierra que vio nacer a Jesus Rafael Soto,Carlos Cruz Diez y Alejandro Otero.

FROM THE EYE OF AN EAGLE

Sometimes it is convenient to step back to appreciate better what disturbs, delights or moves us.
Take a Distance to grasp the essential, it can be a method to understand that world that surrounds and holds us, to be immersed within its limits.
How many times has the mysterious veil that envelops megacities, archaeological sites and natural landscapes been revealed by aerial photographs ? Jorge Rivas does something of that when he rises to contemplate the urban centers. His aerial incursion gives him an abstract vision that draws realities as he descends.
In an intermediate point of that flight, in that limit between the enigma and the truth, each painting that Rivas has called “Aerial View ” is executed. The result is the series that we contemplate with initial confusion. mapping of "topographic modules" accustomed to maps elaborated with strict rules
, now the world and the countries "PERU FOR EXAMPLE" are translated into radical geometric forms and universal symbols, worked with laborious spots of color. Squares, rectangles, crosses, circles, stars, etc., make up a repertoire that synthesizes the orography in differentiated planes and explosive beams that start from the centrifugal force of a bright star.
Rivas uses colors with generosity , action that serves as an exorcism against the dark world that surrounds us and oppresses us. Color and geometry as weapons to reinterpret our great house. For something, the author comes from the same land that saw Jesus Rafael Soto , Carlos Cruz Diez and Alejandro Otero be born.
